North London/Walking

My new housemates/landlords and I have done a lot of walking since I arrived... North London has been the most wonderful surprise. As in, it's spectacular.

Easter Parade

(Did you notice the hat?)

Your mother always knows best. (Also your father.)  At my parents' insistence, I went to the New York Easter Parade today. It's been a tradition here since the civil war—it's more an act of parading than a noun-ish sort of parade that you sit and watch. Basically, everyone dresses up in their Easter finery, wears an elaborate hat and mingles around ten blocks of Park Avenue. My parents drove down from Ontario in their little white Beetle to see it one year in the 70s...  For the most part, it seemed like now there are more spectators than participants, but there was quite a magical little old-time musical ensemble that people were dancing to, and that was just wonderful. Really, really evoked another era.

After checking out all the bonnets my friend (who I had somehow managed to convince to come with me even though he is a boy, but he was meant to be doing taxes today so it really was a rubber arm twisting kind of deal..) and I had a picnic in central park, which was just packed full of blossoms and carriages and adorable kids. And then I went to a tea ceremony, and an Easter dinner thing which are not pictured here as I didn't want to be the only one snapping pictures and interrupting the 'flow', but Easter completely lived up to Thanksgiving as far as 'Holidays in New York' go.  Very happy girl, albeit one with extremely unstable blood sugar levels. Darn marshmallow eggs...

This contraption made him sound like a gramophone— not surprising, I suppose. Lovely voice.

Cat, on a leash, on a rock. Caused quite the sensation.

Empty.

New York does an incredible blue sky.
